Four short films from BPF.SELECTION 2026, followed by Raoul Peck’s documentary on South African photographer Ernest Cole and his rediscovered archive.
BPF.SELECTION 2026 is the official selection of the edition’s open call for film: work that engages deeply with photography as an art form. The evening brings four of the films, all Romanian premieres: An Underground Bird (Eero Tammi), Forgetting (Antoni Orlof), Finding the Landscape (Carlos Vin Lopes) and KIN (Ana Baer, Rocío Luna).
Then comes Ernest Cole: Lost and Found. With House of Bondage, published in 1967 when he was 27, the South African photographer Ernest Cole exposed the horrors of apartheid to the world, and the book sent him into exile for the rest of his life. Raoul Peck’s documentary follows Cole’s years in New York and Europe and the discovery, in 2017, of 60,000 of his negatives in the safe of a Swedish bank.
